OUR STORY
It started with a cushion and a 14-year-old boy.
Inland Road began when Elliot, at just 14 years old, made a possum-fur cushion from a handful of hides he had collected. The moment his uncle bought that first cushion, something clicked — people loved the quality, the softness, the feel of the fur.
With his dad's lifetime in the wool and luxury fibre industry and his own passion for natural materials, Elliot continued sourcing possums and refining the craft. Word spread organically, and soon the family was supplying high-quality skins to customers across New Zealand and overseas.
What makes our story different is that it never started as a business idea. It started as a love for the outdoors, a respect for natural materials, and a desire to leave the land better than we found it.
Today, we grade every skin ourselves and supply over 5,000 skins each year — all commercially tanned to professional standards.

OUR IMPACT
The birds have come back.
On the land we work, possums have been dramatically reduced. Native seedlings are returning. Birdsong has come back. The morning chorus that wakes us at the hut is proof that this work matters.
Brushtail possums were introduced from Australia in 1837 and have devastated native ecosystems. With no natural predators, the population exploded to nearly 70 million. Our hands-on possum control has transformed the land we work on.
